We have been treated to several weeks of warmer weather so I have been spending lots of time outdoors, taking photos of landscapes and hedgerows filled with with summer flowering willowherb, hogweed, poppies and clover to use in my next artworks. At the start of the month I visited the fabulous gardens at Sissinghurst and Great Dixter, finding botanical inspiration all around.
My last embroidery was completed in June; a springtime landscape of the Lammermuir Hills with lilac heathers and fresh greens. I was really pleased with the effect produced by the textured wool clouds rolling over the hilltops.
My printed products have been selling very well at local outlets, especially the packs of notelets. I like to produce items that make beautiful gifts that are useful, too! Today I am picking out part of my latest spring landscape design to have it printed as notecards for my collection.
My original textile-embroidery artworks are in the 3 Harbours Arts Festival’s pop-up exhibition at Haddstock this weekend. Come and see my work at the Trinity Centre in Haddington on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th June.
New stock has arrived! In the shop there’s now a lovely selection of gift items, including new design coaster sets, notelets and notebooks. These are also for sale in Dunbar Craft Studio along with my gorgeous handmade fabric storage boxes.
I’ve been quiet for a while but there is progress behind the scenes, don’t worry! I have just received a set of samples for new printed products from the excellent Dalkeith printers, Southfield Stationers. There will be new cards, notebooks and coasters in stock in my webshop very soon! Great gift items sharing a little bit of my original artwork, designed and printed in Scotland.
They feature my newest textile art designs based on a view down to St. Abbs harbour, green and ploughed fields of East Lothian and a late summer view of barley ears from West Mains farm.
After six months of intense sewing to prepare for my exhibition last month, I’ve taken a short a break. Today I got back to action by making a storage box with this vibrant Hedgerow Birds fabric from Lewis and Irene.
Opening tonight! My work is all ready for the show. There’s a fabulous range of works from a talented bunch of ladies and poetry, too! Come and see us at the Ebba Centre, St Abbs from tomorrow and throughout next week.
Here’s the official poster for the St Abbs Art Exhibition, with dates and opening times. The opening night is Friday 23rd March at 6pm. All are welcome. The exhibition is open from 11-3pm at the weekend and 10-3pm during the week, from Saturday 24th to Thursday 29th March. Do come along and see a wide variety of art styles from local artists based in the Scottish Borders and the Lothians.
This weekend the Poldrate Arts and Crafts Centre Student Exhibition opens. Do go and have a look at the work produced at the fabulous classes held there. You might be inspired to sign up for one of next term’s classes.
